Man Dies from Gunshot Wound in Rancho Cordova

A little after 12:00 p.m. on April 16, 2017, the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body.  The caller initially stated the victim was shot in the area of Zinfandel Drive and Sunrise Boulevard.

Rancho Cordova Police officers responded to the scene, but the victim was already transported by private vehicle to a local hospital.  Officers arrived at the hospital where the victim was taken.  Just before 1:00 p.m., the 21-year-old male victim succumbed from his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Initial investigation showed the shooting did not occur in the area of Zinfandel Drive and Sunrise Boulevard as stated by the caller, but rather near the area of Coloma Road and El Manto Drive in Rancho Cordova.  Homicide detectives were called to the scene to begin their investigation.  The motive of the shooting is not known at this time.

The identity of the victim in this case will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office, after notification has been made to his next of kin.
