The Robbery Bureau is assigned to investigate robberies that have occurred within the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County and the city of Rancho Cordova, including residential robbery (commonly referred to as home invasion robbery), commercial robbery (banks, retail businesses), street robbery, carjacking and also extortion cases.

The definition of a robbery is: a face to face confrontation where something of value is taken by force or fear (the threat of force).

Each member of the Robbery Bureau has been deputized as a Special Deputy United States Marshal and make up the majority of the Sacramento Violent Crimes Task Force (SVCTF).  The SVCTF is a joint entity between the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department and the FBI.  The objective of this task force is to target violent serial robberies at financial institutions, check cashing businesses and/or of business where interstate commerce is affected with a nexus to Sacramento County.
