UCR - Uniform Crime Reports. Crimes known to and recorded by local police departments.

Arson - In October 1978, Congress passed a law that required that arson be included in the Part 1 UCR crime index.

Auto Theft - In 1990, the California Highway Patrol began taking most of the auto theft reports in the unincorporated area of Sacramento County. In July 1997, Citrus Heights incorporated and the Citrus Heights Police Department began taking auto theft reports for their area. In July 2000, Elk Grove incorporated and the Elk Grove Police Department began taking auto theft reports for their area. Both Citrus Heights and Elk Grove contract with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. Their stats are combined with the rest of the unincorporated area.

Crime Rate - Per 100,000 population. Population statistics are obtained by the California Department of Finance.
