Teenager Arrested in Homicide Case
Sheriff's Homicide detectives have arrested a 17 year-old male in connection with the shooting death of a man in Rancho Cordova last week. The suspect, who is not being named because he is a juvenile, was taken into custody near the scene of the crime earlier today, and booked into the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall on a charge of murder.
On January 2, 2013, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Rancho Cordova police officers responded to the area of White Rock Road near Laurelhurst Drive, regarding an unresponsive man inside of a vehicle. It was discovered that the victim, 29 year-old Lucas Esteban-Enrique, had been shot while driving down the street. The victim was transported to a hospital, and died of his injuries the following evening.
Investigative efforts by detectives led to the identification of the 17 year-old suspect as being responsible for the shooting. The suspect is known to have associations with a criminal street gang, and that is believed to have been the motivation for this crime being committed. Detectives are still looking to identify a second person who was with this suspect at the time of the incident. He is described only as a black male who was wearing dark clothing at the time.
