Suspect Arrested for Sex Assault Last Summer
Sheriff's detectives have made an arrest in connection with the sexual assault of a woman that occurred last summer near American River College. Ian Clark, 20, was arrested at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, where he was already in custody since being arrested on July 27th, 2012, for unrelated charges of auto theft and felony evasion of a peace officer.
On July 16, 2012 shortly before 7:00 p.m., a female adult was walking along the Arcade Creek nature trail near American River College. She was grabbed from behind and choked by a man who held a knife to her and conveyed the intention to rape and kill her. The victim struggled with the suspect, and was able to break away from him. The suspect then fled the scene on a bicycle.
Evidence recovered from the scene ultimately linked the suspect, Clark, to the attack. Clark now faces additional felony charges including robbery, sexual battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault with the intent to commit rape.
