Inmate Jumps To His Death

On March 14, 2008, at 8:12 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies were conducting a scheduled inmate clothing exchange on the fourth floor of the Sacramento Main Jail. After he had exchanged his clothing and was returning to his cell, a 39-year-old inmate jumped from the upper tier of the housing unit in an apparent attempt to commit suicide. Deputies immediately responded to where the inmate had landed and rendered first aid and CPR. The jail’s medical staff arrived a short time later and at 8:20 p.m. pronounced the inmate dead at the scene.

The inmate was facing several local and state charges and had been incarcerated at the Main Jail since March 5, 2008. Pursuant to departmental policy, Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives will investigate this inmate death. The inmate’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
