County-Wide Sweep Targets Gang Members The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and the Sacramento Police Department, in partnership with Federal, State, County, and local law enforcement agencies saturated the Sacramento area and made a total of 115 arrests during a recent two-day sweep targeting known gang members. The third annual sweep has come to be known as SNAG III, Sacramento Neighborhoods Against Gangs. The goal of the operation was to send a clear message that gang violence will not be tolerated. Participating law enforcement organizations descended upon neighborhoods across the Sacramento region targeting known gang members on parole or probation. The operation began on Thursday, April 17, 2008, and ended on Friday, April 18, 2008. The large scale operation consisted of over 320 law enforcement officers from 21 different agencies. In addition to the 115 arrests, the sweep resulted in the recovery of 7 firearms, 5 edged weapons; plus illegal cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $238,000.00. The dedication and commitment to the protection of our communities is exemplified by the participation and cooperation of the following agencies who participated in this operation: the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, the Sacramento Police Department, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Division of Adult Parole, the Elk Grove Police Department, the Rancho Cordova Police Department, the Roseville Police Department, the Galt Police Department, the Grant School Police Department, the Citrus Heights Police Department, the Folsom Police Department, the Roseville Police Department, the Sacramento County Probation Department, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, the California Department of Justice, the Regional Terrorist and Threat Assessment Center, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI - Safe Streets), the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Agency (ATF), and the Immigration Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE).
