Homicide On 65th Street

On May 3, 2008, at 2:59 p.m. Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call reporting gunshots being fired at a funeral home which is located at the corner of 65th Street and 53rd Avenue. Deputies arrived and found two Asian male adults suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims, ages 27and 50 years-old, were transported by ambulances to local hospitals. The 27-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital. The 50-year-old victim suffered a non-life threatening wound to his lower leg. A third subject, a 23-year-old male, complaining of chest pain was also transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

Investigators have learned during the funeral service for an elderly female a fight broke out between five or six Asian males. During the fight, at least one of the subjects produced a handgun and fired shots. After the shooting, the suspects fled on foot, and then possibly in an unknown vehicle. All of the suspects were described by witnesses only as Asian males wearing white shirts and dark pants.

At this point, investigators have not identified the suspects nor have they determined a motive for the shooting. Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to call Sheriff’s Detectives at (916) 874-5115, or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00.
