Law Enforcement Memorials

The public and the Media is invited to join local and California Law Enforcement Officials in commemorating the officers who have given their lives in the line of duty in 2007. A series of law enforcement ceremonies will be held locally preceding National Police Week, May 11-17, 2008.

On Wednesday, May 7th, at 9:00 a.m. the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department will be dedicating its Memorial Rose in commemoration of Detective Vu D. Nguyen at the Sheriff’s Rose Garden, 1000 River Walk Way.

At Noon on Wednesday, May 7th, the Sacramento Police/Sheriff’s Memorial Foundation along with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, Sacramento Police Department, and District Attorney’s Office and will be dedicating a new plaque in commemoration of Sheriff’s Detective Vu D. Nguyen who was killed on December 19, 2007, while pursuing a gang member. The 6th Annual Remembrance Ceremony will take place at the Sacramento Police Sheriff’s Memorial, 500 Arden Way, Sacramento. In addition to Detective Vu D. Nguyen, all of the fallen officers from the past 158 years of Sacramento’s Law Enforcement History will be recognized.

On Thursday, May 8th, the California Peace Officers Memorial Foundation will be holding a Candlelight Vigil beginning at the California Peace Officers Memorial Monument, 10th Street and Capitol Mall, at 8:30 p.m.

On Friday, May 9th, the California Peace Officers Memorial dedication ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the California Peace Officers Memorial Monument, 10th Street and Capitol Mall.
