Homicide in North Highlands
Sheriff's detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting that claimed the life of a young girl and wounded two adults late yesterday evening. The incident happened in the 6300 block of Channing Drive in North Highlands at approximately 10:30 p.m.
Deputies received several calls regarding gunshots fired outside of a home. Upon arrival, they discovered three shooting victims inside of a residence. An adult male and adult female, both in their forties, and a ten year-old girl had all sustained gunshot wounds. They were transported to an area hospital where, unfortunately, the young girl succumbed to her injuries. The man and woman are expected to survive.
A canvass of the neighborhood was conducted; homicide detectives and CSI units responded to the scene. Evidence suggests that multiple gunshots were fired from outside of the home into the residence by an unknown number of assailants. Rounds went through the walls and windows of the home, striking all three victims. The exact motive for this incident remains uncertain, and no definitive suspect information has been established.
