Homicide on 47th Avenue

On October 19, 2009, at 9:08 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a store in the 4800 block of 47th Avenue regarding a robbery. When deputies arrived they found a 44-year-old male employee of the store lying behind the counter suffering from a single gunshot wound to his upper body. The deputies rendered cardio pulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived at the hospital.

Sheriff’s Homicide detectives talked to a second store employee who was in the back of the store at the time of the robbery. The employee told them he was working in the back of the store when he heard a gunshot and went to the front of the store in time to see a suspect dressed in dark clothing leave through the front entrance. The witness was unable to provide any further suspect description.

Detectives believe the suspect entered the store to commit a robbery. They do not know what motivated the suspect to shoot the victim and they do not know what, if anything, the suspect was able to steal. Anyone with information about this murder is urged to call Sheriff’s Homicide detectives at (916) 874-5115 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP; or send a text message tip by texting to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
