Homicide on El Camino Avenue

On October 23, 2009, at 1:48 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2100 block of El Camino Avenue regarding the report of a man who had been intentionally struck by a vehicle. Deputies arrived and found a 35-year-old male lying in the street. He had suffered serious traumatic injuries. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Witnesses told deputies the victim, who was on foot (and lived in the 2100 block of El Camino Avenue), had a verbal confrontation with the driver of the vehicle. They said the driver intentionally struck the victim and dragged him approximately 80 feet before he fled the scene. Witnesses were unable to provide deputies with a description of the vehicle’s driver. The abandoned suspect vehicle was located a short time later on Ethan Way. It was determined to be a stolen vehicle.

Sheriff’s Homicide detectives do not know what brought about the verbal confrontation between the victim and suspect, nor do they know what motivated the suspect to intentionally strike and kill the victim with the vehicle.
