December 10, 2009 Second and Third Suspects Arrested for On December 9, 2009, detectives assigned to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Bureau arrested 33-year-old Citrus Heights resident Shanon Shorter and 27-year-old Rancho Cordova resident Gennel Miles for the December 19, 2008 murder of Timothy Brodie. Arrest warrants had been issued for both suspects in connection to the murder. Derrick Sam (30) had been arrested on January 29, 2009 for his involvement in the case. Detectives believe Brodie was kidnapped during the early evening hours of December 19, 2008, and taken to an apartment complex on Laurelhurst Drive in Rancho Cordova. Brodie was shot several times in the parking lot at that location and died at the scene. The victim’s vehicle was found the next day in Carmichael where it had been set on fire. Detectives believe this case was a drug deal gone bad and robbery was the motive for the murder. The investigation is ongoing and detectives believe there maybe other unidentified suspects involved in this homicide. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Sheriff’s Homicide detectives at (916) 874-5057 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP; or send a text message tip by texting to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Both Shorter and Miles were booked (see booking photos below) into the Sacramento County Main Jail on the charges of murder, robbery, kidnapping, torture, arson, carjacking, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. They are being held without bail and are scheduled to be arraigned on December 11, 2009, at 1:30 p.m., in Department 63. Sergeant Tim Curran,
