Clover Manor Way Homicide
Suspect Arrested

On December 10, 2009, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Gang Unit detectives arrested a 17-year-old male juvenile for the October 31, 2009, murder of 23-year-old Carlos Cervantes, Jr. The suspect was arrested at juvenile hall where he had been in custody on charges unrelated to the Cervantes homicide case. His new charges include murder and participation in a criminal street gang.

On October 31, 2009, at 4:14 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of a shooting in the 5900 block of Clover Manor Way. Deputies arrived and found Cervantes lying on the ground and suffering from a single gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics transported Cervantes to a local hospital where on November 27, 2009; he was taken off life-support and died as a result of his wound.

Investigators were told Cervantes was attending a party at the home with several family members and friends. At the party, Cervantes became involved in an altercation with an unknown, uninvited partygoer. During the altercation the suspect pulled out a handgun, shot Cervantes, and fled.

Information developed by Sheriff’s Homicide and Gang detectives leads them to believe the 17-year-old suspect is responsible for the Cervantes’ murder. Detectives believe the motive for the shooting was gang related. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated.
