Inmate Death at the Main Jail

On December 19, 2009, at 4:12 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to work on the 8th floor of the Sacramento County Main Jail entered the cell of an unresponsive inmate. Deputies found the inmate with a ligature tied around his neck; he was unconscious and not breathing. Jail medical staff arrived a short time later and was unable to resuscitate the inmate who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 27-year-old inmate was the sole occupant of the cell. He had been housed at the Main Jail since November 16, 2009, and was facing the charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, and probation violation.

The Sheriff’s Department will conduct a thorough death investigation pursuant to standard policy and procedure. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the inmate’s name after notification is made to his next of kin.
