County Municipal and Superior Courts
This seven story structure covers an entire city block, with 470,000 square feet of floor space. It is occupied by an average of 3,812 people per day, 774 of which are jurors, 660 employees, and 1,500 litigants and attorneys. These courtrooms handle a wide variety of legal process including arraignments, preliminary hearings, misdemeanor and felony trials, family law cases, and civil writs. There are security screening checkpoints at both of the entrances to the courthouse which are designed to keep weapons from entering the building.
Law and Motion Courts (Departments 53 & 54)
These courts hear Superior and Municipal civil law and motion, along with petitions for name change, emancipation of minors and certain probate matters, including demurres, discovery matters, motions for summary judgment, summary adjudication and judgment on the pleadings. These courts are located in the County Employees Credit Union building.
Family Court Services and Probate (Department 55)
Probate (Dept. 55) and Family Court Services (FCS) share this brick building located on the corner of 9th and H Street. Dept. 55 handles the filing and processing of probate documents and the related court hearings. It also deals with conservatorship and guardianships. FCS is a family counseling service operated by Sacramento County that makes recommendations regarding changes in child custody cases and visitation.
58 & 59
Department 58 & 59 are civil settlement courts and are located north of the jury parking, next to the main courthouse.
County Main Jail Municipal and Superior Courts (Departments 60 through
The entrance to these four courtrooms is through the front doors of the Sheriff's Main Jail. These courtrooms and used for arraignments and criminal law and motion.
Miller Justice Center (Departments 81 through 89)
The Carol Miller Justice Center handles all small claim cases and unlawful detainers, as well as, adult and juvenile traffic citations.
Collins Juvenile Justice Center (Departments 90 through 96)
These courts are located at the north end of the county complex at Kiefer and Bradshaw. All juvenile cases, except traffic, are heard here.
