The Sacramento County Sheriffs Department Airport Division provides law enforcement services for the Sacramento International Airport under contract with Sacramento County Airport Systems. The Sacramento International Airport handles more than 10.2 million commercial aviation passengers each year on more than 200 daily flights.

Airport Division deputies are on duty 24 hours a day to provide for the safety, security and assistance of passengers, Airport employees, airline employees, visitors, and foreign and domestic dignitaries. Deputies patrol the airport and its environs by using a variety of modes: foot patrol, bicycle patrol and vehicle patrol.

By Federal mandate, the Division is responsible for rapid response to the TSA screening areas and passenger terminals in the event of a security breach or to investigate prohibited items being carried in passenger carry-on luggage.

While at the airport please do not leave your bags or luggage unattended. Maintain control of your bags, be vigilant and report unattended bags and suspicious activity. Suspicious unattended bags and luggage may be confiscated and destroyed.

The Division employs K9 teams trained to detect explosives in vehicles, cargo, buildings, aircraft and baggage. You may see the K9s and their handlers in or near the terminals at anytime. The K9s are well socialized but always ask the handler for permission before approaching.
