South Bureau Public hours of operation: South Bureau Service Centers: South Bureau extends from the Community of Freeport, south along the Sacramento River to the Antioch Bridge, from the western county jurisdictional line (primarily the Sacramento River) east to the San Joaquin and Amador county lines. Within the jurisdiction there are twelve (12) townships/communities, numerous marinas, resorts, recreational facilities, and many acres of farmland. At present, there are three Community Service Centers for the Sheriff's Department located within the bureau. Each center is supervised by a Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Officer and staffed by local volunteers. The Service Centers allow the citizens of the local area to report non-emergency crimes or violations and to address quality-of-life issues within the community. Also uniquely different, the Deputies' schedules, along with his or her cellular telephone numbers, are published and distributed throughout the communities. Businesses and citizens can review the schedule, easily determine the officer on duty and call for information. Deputies assigned to the Delta participate in a regional monthly meeting with the numerous allied agencies in the region. This organizational meeting (D.O.I.T., Delta Officers Intelligence and Training) is an exchange of information on wanted subjects, parolees, criminal activity and associates. This also provides the opportunity to network with and learn from officers of federal, state and local agencies. During the past two years, DOIT has been accredited with over 50 felony arrests. Delta deputies frequently participate in search and rescue operations with South Bureau's Marine Enforcement, Coast Guard and the Department of Fish and Game. Since the creation of the Community Service Centers, there has been a continual growth in the number of citizens contacting the centers and Deputies for assistance. The Sacramento Sheriff's Department is providing better service to the communities now than at any other time in history. In return, the community shows unparalleled support of the deputies' efforts. South Bureau is also home to the Marine Enforcement Detail. The Marine Enforcement Detail covers approximately 500 miles of waterways in Sacramento County. The Marine Enforcement Detail has seven patrol boats and three personal watercraft units. |
