Public hours of operation: Regional Transit Police Services was established in 1993 when the Sacramento Regional Transit District contracted with both the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department and the Sacramento Police Department to form the detail. RT Police Services provides a wide variety of law enforcement services for Regional Transit's light rail and bus system. The deputies and officers work proactively to provide for a safe and efficient public transportation system. They provide directed police services to safeguard RT's personnel, facilities and patrons. Deputies and officers patrol in marked RT police cars and on bicycles, and occasionally ride the light rail trains as well. In addition, some plainclothes operations are conducted as needed. The unit plans for the management of emergency situations and conducts specialized training relevant to transit policing. The deputies and officers work closely with RT civilian staff to address safety, security and quality of life issues. The unit works with neighborhood groups to address their concerns regarding the transportation system. Police Services is a liaison between RT and the Police Department, the Sheriff's Department, and other law enforcement agencies that are affected by RT's operations. RT Police Services consults with RT regarding facility design,
office building security and workplace violence issues. The unit
also provides training and education for personnel and patrons. |
