Academy - Requirements for Academy Entrance

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older by the start date of the class.
• Must have a high school diploma or a G.E.D.
• Must have a valid California Driver’s License and vehicle insurance.
• Must NOT have ANY felony convictions.
• Must have a minimum P.O.S.T. T-score of 42.
• Passing score on the Academy Physical Ability Test.

If offered a non-affiliate position, you will also be required to provide:

• A signed medical clearance from a physician stating you are able to participate in the physical conditioning program.
• Proof of medical insurance coverage for the duration of the training.
• Written certification from the California Department of Justice that you have no criminal history background which would disqualify you from owning, possessing, or having under your control any firearm capable of being concealed on your person (DOJ Fingerprint Check – Live Scan).

Agency–sponsored trainees are not required to participate in the above-mentioned process. However, each agency-sponsored trainee must have written certification that they have met hiring requirements for that particular employer, as well as certification that they have satisfied the above-mentioned standards.
