Intensive vs. Extended Format

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department currently offers an Intensive Format and Extended P.O.S.T. Certified Basic Academies. The Intensive Format Academy is approximately 24 weeks in length and consists of 956 hours of training. Class instruction is generally held Tuesday-Friday from 6:00am to 5:00pm, with some weekend and night sessions. Upon successful completion, recruits will receive a Certificate of Completion for a P.O.S.T. Basic Course which can be use to apply for employment for any law enforcement agency within the State of California.

The Extended Format Academy is approximately 44 weeks in length and consists of 956 hours of training. Class instruction is held Tuesday-Thursday evenings from 6:00pm-11:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am-6:00pm with occasional daytime sessions. Upon successful completion, recruits will receive a Certificate of Completion for a P.O.S.T. Basic Course which can be use to apply for employment for any law enforcement agency within the State of California.
