The Communications Bureau is a Public Safety Answering Point (PASP) for the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County. All landline 9-1-1 telephone calls along with all emergency telephone calls directed to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department are routed to the Communications Bureau.

The Communications Bureau answers approximately 900,000 emergency and non-emergency telephone calls a year. Of these 900,000 telephone calls, approximately 280,000 are 9-1-1 telephone calls.
