The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department currently offers a non-affiliated recruit position to attend the academy.

Non-Affiliate Recruit Position

A Non-Affiliated Recruit is a candidate who has not been hired by our Department, or has not yet been sponsored by another agency. This candidate is not a County employee and therefore not entitled to a salary or County benefits while attending the Academy.

Non-Affiliated Recruits pay for all of their own materials, fees and uniforms. Once a Non-Affiliate graduates with his/her Academy P.O.S.T. certificate, he/she may apply for employment with most law enforcement agencies within the state of California including as a Deputy Sheriff, On-Call Deputy Sheriff, and a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Academy is currently accepting applications for non-affiliate positions. In order to apply, you must:

Successfully pass the P.O.S.T. Entry Level Written Exam (PELLETB) with a minimum T-score of 42. If you do not have a valid T-score, you will need to register to attend this exam using the link below.
Successfully pass the Physical Agility Test that will take place immediately following the completion of the written exam or if you already have a valid T-score that is within 12 months of the start date of the academy class you are applying for you must contact Recruiting at 916-874-COPS (2677) or recruiting@sacsheriff.com to make an appointment.
