The Special Investigations/Intelligence Bureau consists of a Commander (Sheriff's Lieutenant), Supervisor (Sheriff's Sergeant), and 10 detectives. Detectives are assigned to investigate specific crimes including state and federal gaming violations, prostitution related offenses, solicitation for murder and extortion. Detectives assigned to S.I.I.B. have an expertise in working various undercover assignments that require the use of specialized surveillance equipment.

Additional areas of responsibility include monitoring domestic and international terrorist events, dignitary protection, and the enforcement of state and local laws as they relate to the bingo and alcoholic beverage industry.

ABC Regulations Detail
The ABC Regulations Detail is responsible to identify and suppress criminal activity associated with the alcoholic beverage industry. The detective assigned to this detail works closely with the State Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and routinely operates decoy operations within Sacramento County to ensure compliance of State laws and local ordinances as they relate to the sales and distribution of alcoholic beverages. 

ATF Task Force
The Sheriff's detective assigned to the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms' Task Force works to convert state firearms violations involving ex-felons, into federally prosecutable cases. Once the local charges are converted into federal violations, the suspects are prosecuted in federal court, saving state and local taxpayer's money. When these cases are prosecuted federally, the suspects often face harsher sentences for their crimes.

Anti-Terrorism Detail
The detectives assigned to the Anti-Terrorism Detail are responsible for the identification and prevention of significant disruptions of public peace, and the prevention of harassment and/or harm to individuals or groups based on their race, religion, national origin, or sexual orientation.

Bingo Regulations Detail
The Bingo Regulations Detail is responsible to ensure that the charitable bingo organizations operating within Sacramento County are receiving maximum profits from their games. The detective assigned to this detail is paid for by the charitable organizations and works in conjunction with the Sheriff's Bingo Compliance Unit.

Business License/Labor Relations Detail
The Business Licensing / Labor Relations Detail is responsible to ensure the public health, safety and welfare is adequately protected from particular types of individuals or groups who promote criminal activity. They review and conduct background checks on individuals seeking licensing to conduct business within the County of Sacramento.

F.B.I. Joint Terrorism Task Force
The Federal Bureau of Investigations Joint Terrorism Task force is a multi-agency task force made up of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies who investigate individuals and/or groups known to be or tied to terrorist or extremist groups. The Sheriff's detective assigned to the task force works to identify and prevent significant disruptions of public peace.

Gambling/Vice Operations Detail
The detectives assigned to the Gambling/Vice Operations Detail identify and suppress individuals, groups or organizations engaged in the practice of prostitution, pimping and pandering, public displays of lewd conduct, the distribution of obscene material and state and federal gambling violations.
