Officer Involved Shooting - Public Briefing Video


On Sunday October 6, 2019, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on the scene of a call for service in Harold, California and attempted to make contact with a suspect matching the description 911 callers provided to our Communication Center. The suspect was lying in a ditch and appeared non-responsive upon first contact. The suspect awoke and began talking with the deputy. During the conversation, the deputy observed a handgun in the suspect’s waistband and immediately began giving the suspect verbal commands. The deputy observed the suspect reach for the handgun in his waistband. Fearing he would be shot by the suspect, the deputy fired his weapon, striking the suspect.

The material being released has been identified as significant to this incident and includes radio traffic and in-car camera video.

All videos being released have been minimally redacted to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of those involved. Audio redactions are signified by muted audio with no accompanying sound. This is an active investigation. The information provided in this video release is preliminary and subject to change as investigators learn more.
