The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for providing a safe traveling environment and diminishing any criminal activities at the Sacramento International Airport. Deputies are most visible when they are patrolling the terminals and roadways. But this is only a small portion of their responsibilities.

Many people think the airport is small. However, it is far from small. Every month over 715,000 passengers travel through and about 135,000 vehicles park at the airport. The airport property consists of 6000 acres, about 10 square miles. The airport property is two-thirds the size of local cities Folsom and Citrus Heights, about 15 square miles each.

Deputies respond to calls for service and patrol all of the property belonging to the Sacramento International Airport as well as handling special duties unique to the airport. Deputies use a variety of ways to patrol these areas including foot patrol, four wheel drive vehicles, patrol cars, electric vehicles, and bicycles.
