The Wilton Service Center is shared with the Wilton Fire Department as
well as California Highway Patrol. This office handles non-emergency
calls for the rural areas of Delta, Wilton, Herald, Freeport, Laguna West,
and the unincorporated areas of Galt. One Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Officer,
Office Manager and 10 Volunteers staff the building. Calls for service
may include non in-progress crime reports, neighbor concerns and quality
of life issues. The Safety Center is a friendly, professional place where
one is offered a cup of coffee while visiting or discussing a concern.
Other services provided include fingerprinting, crime prevention activities
and community meetings.
The Volunteers assist citizens either over the telephone
or in person. Most of the time this will result in writing a crime report.
who are interested are encouraged to go through additional training
and can perform "VIPS Patrol" duties. VIPS stands for "Volunteers
In Partnership With The Sheriff." Two uniformed Volunteers drive
a marked light duty pick up truck and are considered the "eyes
and ears" of the department. They perform duties such as vacation
security checks, report of illegal trash dumping, suspicious activity
as well as being a positive figure in the communities. They assist
Officers as needed in non-confrontational situations.
Through the Wilton Service Center, the POP Officer implemented an "owner
applied number program". The owner applied numbers are additional
identification numbers placed on personal property. Through the program,
the property owner is assigned a specific number. These numbers are used
by Law Enforcement throughout the state so that property can be identified
if stolen and returned to the owner. Any resident of Sacramento County
interested in participating in this program can contact the Wilton Safety
Center. The OAN program was established for the residents of Sacramento
