Welcome Military Veterans

Deputy Eric Uhercik

As a former member of the United States Armed Forces, you have a unique opportunity to continue the professionalism, pride and dedication to service you began in the military by serving the citizens of Sacramento County as a Sheriff's Deputy.

The G.I. Bill is available to pay for your academy costs and possibly living expenses if you qualify. Payments are made to the veteran who is then responsible for paying the academy fees.

The Sacramento Sheriff's Department Training Academy is sponsored through American River College. Our academy is considered a third party training agency so all questions regarding the G.I. Bill should be directed to American River College Veteran Services Office. They can be reached by telephone at (916) 484-8135 (7:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday) or their website: http://www.arc.losrios.edu/Support_Services/Veterans_Services.htm.

All the recruits attending the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Training Academy will be offered a Deputy Sheriff On-Call position upon successful completion of the Sheriff's Training Academy, and successfully passing a background investigation including a medical and psychological examination. The background investigation will be initiated while the recruit is attending the Academy. For further information please contact our Recruiting Office at recruiting@sacsheriff.com.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department has proven to be a military friendly employer. Our military employees are provided with approximately 30 days per year of full pay and benefits when called to active duty military service. They are offered a voluntary program that allows veterans to purchase service credit in the pension plan. (Subject to requirement and limitations established by ordinance). We have been a proud member of the Employer Partnership of the Armed Forces (EPAF) (www.employerpartnership.org ) for over 5 years.

We have many job classifications that can accommodate a wide variety of interests, limitations and restrictions. We welcome and encourage spouses and/or significant others to also seek employment within our department.

Please contact our Recruiting Unit at recruiting@sacsheriff.com for any questions you may have regarding employment with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. We look forward to hearing from you.
