Second Arrest Made in Fruitridge Road Double Murder

On May 13, 2017, Homicide detectives arrested Richard Jefferson Saterfield, 21, of Sacramento for the murders of 19-year-old Daniel Robert Murti and 15-year-old Sergio Murti which occurred Thursday afternoon on Fruitridge Road.  Saterfield turned himself into homicide detectives knowing he was wanted by the Sheriff’s Department for the May 11th murders.

On May 12, 2017, 20-year-old Hieu Hoang was arrested on the same charges and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

A little after 12:00 p.m. on May 11, 2017, the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a shooting in the 5200 block of Fruitridge Road in South Sacramento.

Deputies responded to the scene and located Daniel and Sergio Murti on the ground in the parking lot of a strip mall, both whom sustained gunshot wounds and were unresponsive.  Sacramento Metro Fire responded to the scene, and pronounced both victims deceased at the scene.

Witnesses heard several gunshots in the area, and observed at least two suspects in a light colored SUV flee the scene east on Fruitridge Road.  Homicide detectives are still looking into the motive of the shooting, but believe the victims and suspects had an encounter prior to the shooting.  Detectives do not believe this shooting was a random event.

Saterfield was arrested for two counts of murder and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.  He is currently ineligible for bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on May 16, 2017.

Detectives are asking anyone with information relating to this incident, to please contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.  Tip information may also be left anonymously at or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
