South Sacramento Homicide

A little before 10:30 a.m. on May 14, 2017, the Sacramento Metro Fire Department responded to a call of an unresponsive male in a field located in the 5800 block of Orange Avenue in South Sacramento.  Sacramento Metro Fire responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.  The Sheriff’s Department was called to scene, because the death did not appear natural to fire department personnel.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene.  Deputies located a possible crime scene in Jack Sheldon Park during a canvass of the area.  The possible crime scene was located just south of where the victim was located.  There was a small homeless encampment in the area.

Homicide detectives arrived on scene along with the Sacramento Coroner’s Office.  The Deputy Coroner conducted a preliminary assessment of the victim.  The victim sustained appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body.  He appeared to be in his early to mid-50’s.  Detectives are trying to determine when the shooting occurred.  There is no known motive or suspect description at this time.

The identity of the victim in this case will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office, after notification has been made to his next of kin.
