South Area Stabbing Leads to Arrest in North Sacramento

On April 13, 2018, at 10:35 a.m. the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Communication Center received a 911 call from the 7300 block of Gardner Avenue within south Sacramento.  While speaking with a Sheriff’s Department 911 Call Dispatcher, a male stated he was stabbed.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded and located the victim who was identified as a male in his twenties, who sustained non-life threatening stab wounds to his upper body.  Deputies identified the stabbing suspect as 25-year-old Royer Delgado of south Sacramento and concluded he fled from the location in a vehicle.

At approximately 11:15 a.m. Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to North Patrol Division were working in the area of Watt Avenue and Arden Way when they attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a white Subaru four-door for vehicle code violations.  The driver failed to yield for the deputies and a short pursuit ensued.  Minutes later, the pursuit was terminated due to safety reasons.  The deputies were unaware the vehicle was occupied by Delgado.

At 11:27 a.m. the Sheriff’s Department Communication Center received a call from the 2000 block of Howe Avenue in regards to an attempted carjacking.  Minutes later, an attempted bicycle theft was reported in the same area.  Deputies began investigating and determined Delgado was also the suspect in these crimes.  Information obtained from witnesses and observations made by deputies at the scene, lead deputies to a home in the 2000 block of Ernest Way.  Deputies determined Delgado was inside the home and also discovered there were potentially three young children in the home.

As deputies surrounded the residence, they were able to assist the children in escaping through a window.  Deputies attempted to establish a dialogue with the suspect but were unsuccessful.  After a standoff that lasted just over one hour, Sheriff’s Deputies entered the residence and located Delgado inside a bedroom.  Delgado was arrested and later transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail where he was booked for charges related to assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery, and evading law enforcement in a vehicle.  Delgado remains in custody and is being held on $1,000,000.00 bail.
