Illegal Marijuana Grow with Multiple Illegal Firearms Seized

In the early morning hours of June 13, 2018, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department investigators served search warrants in the 12000 block of East Stockton Boulevard and the 10000 block of Arno Road within rural south Sacramento County.

These search warrants were the culmination of a long-term investigation involving several local, state and federal organizations.

During the course of this investigation, it was discovered persons associated with properties located in the above area were participating in a large-scale illegal outdoor marijuana cultivation and trafficking operation.

Service of the search warrants involved Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department narcotics investigators from the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (CALMMET) and the Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Detail (SED).  Other involved agencies included the Citrus Heights Police Department, the United States Department of Forestry and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

As investigators converged upon both locations, several involved parties fled through neighboring fields on foot.  The fleeing parties were located and detained with the assistance of law enforcement canine units, air support assets, and law enforcement officers who were on the ground.  During the initial approach portion of the operation, it was discovered there were firearms placed strategically throughout the locations.  Initially, there were approximately 30 individuals detained from both locations and as a result 17 of those 30 were arrested for various charges pertaining to possession of firearms while in the commission of a felony and illegal marijuana cultivation.

During a search of the locations, it was also discovered there were multiple felony environmental crimes which had occurred on the property.

It is estimated there are approximately 17,000 – 19,000 marijuana plants on the premises having an approximate street value of over four million dollars.  A total of 13 firearms (shotguns, rifles, handguns) were recovered from both locations and at least two of those firearms were reported stolen.
