Updated 7/9 - Deputies Investigate South Sacramento Homicide

UPDATE:  On July 8, 2018, at 8:30 am, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detectives booked 32-year-old Michael Foster of Sacramento into custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail.  It was determined Foster was the driver of the vehicle when his female passenger was shot.  Foster was also the same person who flagged down CHP officers and notified them of the female shooting victim who was in the vehicle he was driving.

At this time, Foster is not implicated in the shooting death of the female victim in this case but remains in custody for possession of a firearm by a felon, along with other related firearms possession charges in addition to violating the terms of his Post-Release Community Supervision (PRCS) probation.  Foster is being held without bail due to his probation violation.

Homicide Detectives are still attempting to identify a suspect in this case and are asking anyone with information related to this crime to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

On Sunday, July 8, 2018, at 12:42 AM, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Communications Center was notified that Officers from the California Highway Patrol were flagged down by a male near the intersection of Stockton Boulevard and Florin Road within south Sacramento County.

Upon contact, the male directed the CHP officers to a dark-colored four-door sedan and indicated a female in the vehicle had been shot.  Sheriff’s Deputies immediately responded along with personnel from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department.

Once on-scene, fire personnel pronounced the female victim dead.  Sheriff’s Department personnel began their investigation and at this point, the Sheriff’s Department is investigating this incident as a homicide.

There is no apparent motive at this time or suspects in custody.  The victim has tentatively been identified as a female in her mid-forties and sustained at least one gunshot wound to her upper body.

The identity of the victim, in this case, will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office after notification has been made to his next of kin.

Detectives are asking anyone with information relating to this incident, to please contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.  Tip information may also be left anonymously at or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
