Child Dies After Being Found Inside Hot Vehicle

On July 7, 2018, at 5:53 pm, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Communications Center received a 911 call after a child was discovered inside a hot vehicle and was unresponsive and not breathing.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 9700 block of Everbloom Way and began providing CPR to the two-year-old male victim.  Personnel from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department also arrived and continued rendering aid as the child was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Child Abuse Bureau responded to the child’s residence on Everbloom Way to begin their investigation, which is standard protocol in all death investigations involving children.  Detectives have concluded the preliminary stages of their investigation and at this point, it is unknown how long the child was in the vehicle or exactly how the child came to be in the vehicle.

The death of this child is believed to be heat related but the final cause of death will be determined by the Sacramento County Coroners Office.  There have been no arrests made and the investigation is ongoing.
