Detectives Investigate Homicide in Rio Linda

On July 29, 2018, at 2:07 AM the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call from the 1500 block of E Street in Rio Linda.  The caller indicated a person had been shot but was unable to provide any further information.

Deputies arrived at the scene and contacted the caller who subsequently directed them to the victim.  The victim was unconscious and deputies attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful in their attempts.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department personnel.

Detectives were called to the scene and at this point are investigating this case as a homicide.  Homicide detectives have not yet determined a motive but have tentatively identified the victim as a 41-year-old male and believe he sustained at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.  Detectives and crime scene investigators will be at the scene throughout the day attempting to determine what took place leading up to the victims’ death.

The identity of the victim, in this case, will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office, after notification has been made to his next of kin.
