Arrest in Watt Avenue Homicide Investigation

On July 25, 2018, at 8:26 PM the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Communication Center received information in regards to a male being run over by a vehicle in the 4600 block of Watt Avenue in north Sacramento County.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with personnel from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department.  Upon arrival of first responders, the victim was located in a business parking lot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s Deputies began speaking with witnesses and obtained additional information.  Preliminary information has led investigators to believe the victim was intentionally run over by the driver of the vehicle.  It was determined the suspect fled from the scene by driving the vehicle southbound on Orange Grove Avenue at a high rate of speed.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office as 50-year-old Joaquin Gonzalez of Sacramento.

On July 28, 2018, Sheriff’s Department Detectives arrested a 38-year-old Sacramento man for his involvement in this case.  The suspect is currently being held in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges pertaining to murder and a parole violation.  He is currently ineligible for bail due to his charges.  The booking photograph and identity of this suspect is currently being withheld due to pending investigation.
