Detectives Investigate Homicide in Rio Linda Neighborhood

On July 31, 2018, at 10:10 AM, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call from the 300 block of Quadra Avenue in Rio Linda.  The caller advised that a neighbor walked up to his house and told the caller someone was shot inside his home across the street.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the location and shortly after their arrival, a male emerged from the home with a firearm.  The male with the firearm and another male were peacefully detained by deputies.  Upon entering the home, deputies located the male victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department.  It is believed the male victim sustained at least one gunshot wound.

Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detectives responded along with Crime Scene Investigators and will remain on-scene throughout the evening attempting to determine what occurred.

At this point, detectives have a male suspect in his forties detained and are attempting to determine a motive behind this incident.  The victim has tentatively been identified as a male in his 70’s and it is believed the suspect is the victims’ son.

The identity of the victim, in this case, will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office after notification has been made to his next of kin.
