Update- Homicide on Astral Drive

Update (October 14, 2018) - An arrest has been made in the October 13, 2018 Rancho Cordova homicide.  Mathew Shaffer of Rancho Cordova was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail early this morning. The investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident.

On October 13, 2018 at 9:40 a.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Communication Center received a 911 call from the area of Astral Drive and Burline Street regarding a shooting.  Rancho Cordova Police officers and Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies immediately responded to the scene.  Upon their arrival, they located the victim who had sustained at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.

The victim was later pronounced dead by arriving fire personnel.  The victim is described as a male adult.  At this point, details are limited regarding circumstances surrounding this incident.  Investigators have not identified a motive for this crime or established any suspect information.  Several witnesses were on scene and are cooperating.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Homicide investigators will remain on-scene throughout the day.  The identity of the victim, in this case, will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after notification has been made to his next of kin.
