Suspicious Death Investigation

On November 25, 2018, at 6:01 A.M., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Communication Center received a call for assistance from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department.

The fire department transported a male to an area hospital from the Walmart retail store located at 2700 Marconi Avenue.  It was reported the male collapsed at work.  The male was pronounced dead upon arrival to the hospital and information received during the initial patient assessment indicated he may have been assaulted earlier in the morning.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Walmart and the hospital to investigate.

Deputies interviewed employees at the Walmart, who explained the 54-year-old victim was a long-time employee at the store.  The victim's co-workers related, the male told them he was involved in an altercation prior to beginning his shift at 4:00 A.M.

At this point, the Sheriff’s Department is investigating this as a suspicious death and it is unclear if potential injuries from the earlier assault contributed to the victim's death.

The identity of the victim, in this case, will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office after notification has been made to his next of kin.

Detectives are asking anyone with information relating to this incident, to please contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.  Tip information may also be left anonymously at www.sacsheriff.com or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
