Early Morning Shooting Leaves Two Seriously Injured

On February 23, 2019, at 12:49 A.M., the Rancho Cordova Police Department responded to the 10000 block of El Mercado Drive regarding reports of gunshots being fired in the area.

While officers responded to the location, they received information there were possibly two victims struck by gunfire. Officers arrived at the scene and located the victims who had each sustained gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department responded, evaluated the victims, and transported them to area hospitals for treatment.

The victims have both been identified as Hispanic males in their twenties. One of the victims is expected to survive while the other remains in extremely serious condition. Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Rancho Cordova Police Department Detectives are on the scene attempting to determine what took place leading up to the shooting.

At this time, detectives do not believe this was a random act and it is suspected the victims were targeted. Detectives are speaking with witnesses and gathering evidence but have not yet developed a suspect description. A dark-colored sedan was reportedly seen leaving the area after the shooting took place.

Detectives are asking anyone with information relating to this incident, to please contact the Sheriff’s Office and the Rancho Cordova Police Department at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.  Tip information may also be left anonymously at www.ranchocordovapd.com or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
