Residential Burglary Suspects Arrested

On February 26, 2019, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the Antelope area of north Sacramento. The homeowner contacted the Sheriff’s Office and indicated her home was burglarized earlier in the day while she was away. The homeowner also explained there was surveillance video of the incident. During a review of the video, it was discovered the burglar was armed with a handgun and at one point he held the handgun to the head of the victim’s dog. The dog was not injured and the suspect ultimately left the scene in a vehicle after taking multiple items of value from the home.

Detectives began investigating and were able to identify two suspects in this case.

After an extensive investigation, on April 18, 2019, Sheriff’s Detectives and members of the Special Enforcement Detail along with several other Sheriff’s Office entities prepared to serve a search warrant at a residence in the 800 block of Fulton Avenue in north Sacramento. As personnel briefed the operation, one of the burglary suspects departed from the residence in a vehicle.

Investigators were prepared for this and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. After a short pursuit, the suspect eventually stopped and was detained near the 2700 block of Lerwick Road, where it was discovered there was a small child in the vehicle. There were no injuries to any involved parties, including the child.

The suspect from the April 18th operation has been identified as 39-year-old Jose Smith of Sacramento. Smith was booked into custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail for multiple charges including but not limited to receiving stolen property, burglary, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He remains in custody and is being held in lieu of 1.1 million dollar bail.

The second suspect, in this case, was already in custody on unrelated charges stemming from his arrest by Sheriff’s Deputies on March 7, 2019. This suspect has been identified as Anthony Mosqueda, a 40-year-old Sacramento man. Mosqueda has been booked on charges of violating his AB 109 probation, along with conspiracy to commit burglary and is being held in lieu of 90,000.00 bail in the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office are working diligently to see if these suspects are connected to other residential burglaries in the Sacramento area.
