Homicide Investigation in South Sacramento

At approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, the Sheriff’s Communications Center received numerous calls of shots fired in the 3900 block of 42nd Avenue in South Sacramento. Additionally, the Communications Center received several activations from ShotSpotter, reporting multiple rounds fired in the same general location.

Deputies arrived and located a 47-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to her upper body, who was alert and talking. Deputies also located a 29-year-old male nearby who had sustained a gunshot wound, and was unconscious. CPR was initiated by deputies on the male until fire personnel arrived. Both gunshot victims were transported to area hospitals. The male was later pronounced deceased.

Originally, the Communications Center was advised a third victim, an adult female, walked into an area hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Detectives determined this information was not accurate and the only gunshot victims were the 29-year-old male and 47-year-old female located at the scene by deputies.

No suspect information or motive is currently known.

The identity of the deceased victim in this case will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after notification of next of kin.
