Fair Oaks Cold Case Homicide Arrest

Shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2010, two armed suspects forced their way into a home in the area of Winding Way and New York Avenue in Fair Oaks. The suspects demanded money from the two brothers who lived in the residence. When the victims did not comply with the suspects demands, both suspects fired their weapons at the victims. A scuffle ensued and one of the victims was fatally shot.

Both suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. The second victim sustained minor injuries and survived.

On January 7, 2020, detectives assigned to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Homicide Cold Case Team arrested 45-year-old John Francis Meskell for murder, pursuant to an arrest warrant.

Meskell was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
