Order Releasing Inmates at Sheriff’s Correctional Facilities

On March 25, 2020, the Sheriff’s Office received an Order from the Superior Court directing the release of inmates who are serving County jail commitments with 60 days or less remaining on their sentence, so long as they qualify within the criteria set forth in the Order.

Pursuant to the Order, in relevant part, no inmate whose offense includes one or more of the following categories is eligible for release:

  1. No inmate serving time for a domestic violence or offense involving a victim of domestic violence…
  2. No inmate serving time for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs…
  3. No inmate serving time for an offense that requires registration as a sex offender…

This Order will result in the release of 421 inmates who are currently being housed at the Sacramento County Main Jail or the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center. The releases will take place on or before March 30, 2020.
