Aircraft Crashes near Twin Cities and Christensen Roads

On Sunday, September 4, 2022, at approximately 8:54 a.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from the 12000 block of Christensen Road regarding a report of an aircraft that crashed in an orchard.  The caller advised that they saw a small plane go down and heard a loud sound.

Cosumnes Fire and Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and located the aircraft in a marshy area inside a private orchard.  Fire personnel searched through the wetlands to render aid; however, the victims, two adult male occupants of the aircraft, were both deceased at the scene.  The Sheriff’s Office Marine Enforcement Detail responded to recover the aircraft and victims from the marsh.  No further information is available at this time.

The identity of the victims in this case will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after identification and notification of next of kin.

As is customary, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will take over and conduct separate investigations as to the cause of the crash.  The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office will maintain scene security until investigators from each of the agencies arrive.

Thank you to the Cosumnes Community Service District’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), California Highway Patrol’s Air Operations Unit H24, and the Sacramento County Park Rangers, for responding and providing invaluable resources to aid in this investigation.

Sheriff Scott Jones and the Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the family and friends that are impacted by this tragic incident.
