In the early hours of January 12, 2023, North Patrol deputies responded to two calls for service for a man who made threats with a knife. Unfortunately, he could not be located either time. Shortly afterwards, at approximately 1:54 A.M., deputies were dispatched to the same area for a male who threatened a security guard with a gun. The suspect matched the description of the previous two calls. When units arrived on the scene, the subject got into a truck and attempted to drive away.
Deputies attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, but the suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Jose HERNANDEZ, refused to stop, leading deputies on a lengthy pursuit throughout the north area of Sacramento County.
HERNANDEZ’s vehicle was disabled with spike strips and he eventually came to a stop. HERNANDEZ refused to exit and threatened “suicide by a cop,” leading to a standoff. The Sheriff’s Enforcement Detail (S.E.D.) arrived on scene and assisted patrol units. After approximately two hours, HERNANDEZ surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident. HERNANDEZ is currently being held on $50,000 bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail, awaiting his court appearance scheduled for January 12, 2023 at 3:00 P.M.
