At approximately 8:45 A.M. on Monday, April 17, 2023, Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Dahboy Way in Orangevale regarding a family disturbance. The caller said their 36-year-old son-in-law was vandalizing the family’s home and vehicles. Additionally, the caller confirmed that the son-in-law did not live at the residence.
When confronted by neighbors, the son-in-law told neighbors he was trying to kill himself. As the son-in-law’s aggression escalated, the caller and his family retreated inside their home and stayed on the phone with 9-1-1.
The son-in-law continued throwing rocks through windows and forced entry into the residence. Fearing for the safety and welfare of those inside, a household member shot the son-in-law. Deputies arrived on scene moments later and began life-saving measures, simultaneously requesting the fire department to enter the scene. They began life-saving measures as the fire department arrived, but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene a short time later, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence. Based on their investigation, Sheriff’s Homicide detectives determined that no criminal charges were warranted.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased subject.
