Shooting on Mira Del Rio Drive

At approximately 1:40 AM on Saturday, December 30, 2023, the Sheriff’s Communications Center received a frantic 911 call from a male caller stating that he accidentally shot his wife. Deputies arrived on scene and detained the husband, later identified as Rubin Ramirez. Deputies then entered the residence and located his wife in the master bedroom with a gunshot wound in her shoulder. The victim was conscious and alert. Fire personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to the hospital.

There were no witnesses located in the residence. Both the victim and Ramirez independently told deputies they heard a noise in the middle of the night, when Ramirez got his gun and accidentally discharged it when he was getting up to investigate. Both were adamant with deputies that the incident was a complete accident.

Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene and gathered evidence. Sheriff’s deputies’ investigation did not locate any signs of a struggle or any other factors indicating that any domestic violence was involved.

Ramirez was arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was booked for felony PC 246.3 – Negligent Discharge of a Firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 3, 2024.
