Delivery Driver Arrested for Sexual Assault

On January 10, 2024, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested 45-year-old William Hunter related to a sexual assault that occurred in northern Sacramento County on July 23, 2021.  Hunter, who was unknown to the victim, disguised himself as an Amazon delivery service employee and forced his way into the victim’s house where the assault occurred.

Evidence was collected from the scene and subsequently processed.  However, a suspect was not immediately identified.  New investigative leads were eventually developed, which ultimately led to the identification of William Hunter as the suspect in this violent assault.  Detectives learned Hunter was an employee of a delivery service company who contracted with Amazon.

Hunter is currently being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail on $1,000,000.00 bail for one count of Assault with Intent to Commit Rape while in the Commission of a Burglary, one count of Burglary, and one count of Battery.  He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, January 12, to answer for the charges.

This is an active and ongoing criminal investigation.  Detectives are concerned there may be additional unreported victims.  Any community members with information regarding this investigation are urged to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Assault Bureau at 916-874-5070, SEAB@sacsheriff.com, or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.
