Suspects Charged in Main Jail Stabbing

At approximately 2 PM on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, a male inmate housed at the Sacramento County Main Jail was stabbed five to six times by a group of another three male inmates.  This assault took place during recreation time on 5-East.  The victim was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.   The other three inmates were subsequently detained and isolated without further incident.

The three inmates charged in the assault were:

  • 26-year-old Christopher Berger, currently in custody for PC 187 – Murder
  • 23-year-old Ismael HerreraMondello, currently in custody for several felonies, including PC 664/187 – Attempted Murder
  • 38-year-old Francis Chavez, currently in custody for PC 664/187 – Attempted Murder

All three will be add-booked later today for various charges related to the stabbing.
